The Steps to Victory
I am now introducing this new format to MY guides because it is easier to follow and can be understanded easier. Each step is divided by 1-6, 7-11, 12-16 and 17-25. 17-25 is just to say extra things like support items, luxury, etc. Let's begin now.
Levels 1-6
Before picking Troll
Do you see any disablers on your team? If you do, then pick the Troll. To do kills at the beginning, the Troll needs a disablers but he can later be self-dependant. So choose if there is a disabler.
Choosing the Lane
The Troll has two ways to lane, he can either go Jungling or do solo lane. If he goes on Jungling, it must be on 5vs5. If he goes on a Lane, he must go alone since he is a carry and he needs all the money to build up fast.
Going middle... then get a chicken.
Going sides... no problem! You can buy the items on the shops.
Going Jungling... then get a chicken.
"Which heroes can give me trouble?"
You are a ranged hero, and no heroes can give problems but remember to always watch where your hero is and be carefull that you don't get ganked at all.
Skill Build
Jungling build
Level 1: Berserker Rage
Level 2: Fervor
Level 3: Fervor
Level 4: Stats
Level 5: Fervor
Level 6: Battle Trance
There is a reason for the stats over there. You need some support to fight the creeps around the map and extra-life, extra-damage and a better mana pool. Fervor will be the key skill for the Troll now since he can make the fast kills with it. Berserker rage can only be maxed on level 1 since Fervor has a better effect on Troll. Also it is just for creeps that attack on melee.
Skill Build #2
Lane Build
Level 1: Berserker Rage
Level 2: Fervor
Level 3: Fervor
Level 4: Berserker Rage
Level 5: Fervor
Level 6: Battle Trance
The only difference with the other build is that Berserker Rage can be upgraded on level 2. The rest is still the same. Remember some heroes might gank, if you feel you can kill them then attack on ranged and get close enough to do Berserker... death!
Starting Items
Jungling and Laning
   or
Remember have your team buy a chicken or do it yourself.
Quelling Blade can be the best item to begin a game if you are melee. The common trick to use the Quelling Blade is to activate the first skill Berserker Rage and buy the item. Then change to ranged and you will still conserve the damage bonus. This should be bought for both Jungling and Laning item builds.Stout Shield is perfect for either Jungling or Laning since it has a change to avoid some damage. Don't try to make it a Vanguard or Poor Man's Shield. Salve or Tangos are your choice. I prefer a salve since it has more healing than the three charges that Tangos offer. But anyways that is your only choice.
Later Items
This items should be bought before after level 7. Remember it is a 1-6.
Basic Item
to become...
If it is your first time playing troll... This item is important because of the lifesteal and that means 'neverending' life for the Troll when he attacks enemies.
For protection

Just buy two slippers if you feel you get harrased a lot in your lane. Many people decide to also get Vanguard and that is your choice. I usually make the Poor Man's Shield
To Hunt or Run
, and
Boots of Travel, Phase Boots or Power Treads... people usually go for Phase Boots since it gives damage and decent speed to hunt enemies down but you will be unable to bash while on phase, I'll go for this one. Power Treads can be a cheap option at the beginning but it has poor MS and that extra AS is not useful at all since your hero has skills that can increase AS instead but that 10+ agility can be usefull too. Your choice now. Boots of Travel can be a last upgrade after you buy either Power Treads or Phase Boots just for Luxury. Remember to upgrade the boots later, just initiate with normal Boots of Speed.
Your Item build should something like this.
   Mages on the field ->
You can buy this any time so it doesn't have that much importance on the item build. |
Levels 7-11
Farming these Days
Now you should be level 7 and you can begin the hunting. Let's forget now the jungling build since people might have switched lanes, made ganks, destroyed some towers... it doesn't matter anymore where you farm but YOU GOT to farm. Well let's continue.
"Can I begin roaming?"
If you think this, then it's your first or second time playing the troll. Remember that your Core is Phase Boots and Dominator
"Am I ready for hunting?"
No, you are not ready... you are 'almost' ready, you still need the magical Dagger or the magical Lothar for these levels. I've not forgotten the BKB so just keep reading.
Let's see the process of how does the Troll kill.
1. Berserker Rage + Dagger + Battle Trance + Blind = Death.
2. Berserker Rage + Lothar's Edge + Battle Trance + Blind = Death
Even before ganking the hero you want to kill, you have to activate Berserker Rage because... If you are ranged, activate Battle Trance and then change to melee, the effect wears off. Watch out for this, I am serious because it can screw up your kill. Do it this way and always do Blind because it can save you an attack that might have had a Bash or whatever, so don't feel that skill is useless.
Anything Else?
Oh yeah, I was forgetting something... we are core now so you must do the hunting and get the items before reaching the next section because you might get late ok? Let's continue now.
Skill Build
Hunting build
Level 7: Fervor Rage
Level 8: Berserker Rage
Level 9: Fervor/Berserker Rage
Level 10: Blind
Level 11: Battle Trance
Now we make ourselves machines since the skills make the troll really fast on his attacks and it can be very hard to kill him without a bash.Fervor has to be maxed out because it is the key to victory.Berserker rage will now be used for hunting and must be maxed out the same way as Fervor.Blind also must be sometimes.
