I've always using it whenever I have no more choices, and what I hate is: most of other public favourite heroes have been picked.

I'll tell you a simple guide for even an amateur.

First, from all, we both know that Medusa is weak in case of fighting multitude of heroes, so make sure that yous stick at an allied hero whenever you go, and only travel alone if you sure that you're safe enough.

For the first start, buying a lot of multi attribute supports can extend its patheticly low hit points for safety reason, armor isn't too important for this hero. Next, taking split shot is the best. I've learnt that although decreasing its damage, you can have more chances to eliminate multicreeps at one "breath", and your opponents' heroes can also be attacked although not directly. It's better to pick the Mystic Snake at the next level. It can be used for an emergency reason, like if you have no healing salves left or mekansm is still in cooldown.

You must buy an Ethereal Blade, it's a good choice for your first blood, a refresher orb, mekansm, linken sphere, Manta Style, Stygian Desolator, Helm of the Dominator or Planewalker's Cloak. Having 2 or more of these items can help you a lot.

You can stop upgrading split shot if you want, but make sure that you still upgrade Mystic Snake until it's prime level. At level 6, you must aware of your enemies, who knows that one of them has leveled up. Basicly, drawing a first blood is our next challenge. I have did it once, and it's not as simple as it's seen.

Keep fighting and keep attacking your target hero is a good resolution, but make as it's a part of your split shot. It may involves on how well can you deceive their eyes. Then count how many enemies are there in the range of your sight. If your target hero can be targeted as the last target of your Mystic Snake, you have done a good progress. You may see him walking to you for attacking, activate your Mana Shield then hit it with your Ethereal Blade. Your enemy won't attack using a normal hit, so hit him with a Stone Gaze, which will slow him down. Its good to call your friends to hit it together. But exactly before anybody hit it to gain the first blood, try to hit it with your Mystic Snake.

The trick above may not work against anyone who can control their hero nicely.

Items that I may recommend:
-Linken Sphere or Planewalker's Cloak (It may deflect your enemies' skills)
-Satanic (Lifesteal and high strength boost is a perfect element for this hero, since it's hit points' too low.)
-Manta Style (by sending one of your clones away, you've tricked your enemy so it will chase the fake clone.)
-Ethereal Blade (you can prevent your enemies from attacking you with normal hits)
-Arcane Boots (giving both mana regen and speed boost)
-Assault Cuirass (this item will dampens your enemies' attacking speed and decreasing their armor and grant your teammates extra attacking speed and armor)

These items may not be the best ever, but I've never got knocked by using these.
