Max Strafe and take 2-3 levels of Wind Walk early, take Death Pact when possible.
Use Soul Ring before you cast Death Pact on big neutral creeps
Early game farm as much as you can and don't try to gank without using Death Pact.
After Orchid don't forget to make BKB, it will save your life countless times and allow you to kill people during Strafe without getting chain stunned and dying.
Hello and welcome to my second hero guide, this time for Bone Fletcher. Even though there is nothing wrong with previous guides I decided to make this one since this hero is pretty straight forward and I wanted to try out a new way of guide formating.
Since this hero just got introduced to Dota 2 I guess people will appreciate it.
Metagame revolves around fast paced combat and taking down towers fast for quick gold, and finishing the game early.
Bone fits in it pretty good, but is very dependant on the element of suprise and use of invisiblity. I think that 2 other invisibility heroes slightly outclass him because they are more tanky (Weaver) or provide more utility (Gondar) while all bone has is sick damage and ability to destroy towers. When comparing him to Riki I think that they are on the same level.
When it comes to DPS role, Bone is in direct competition with Lycan and Terrorblade who deal great amount of DPS and push towers very fast, but don't rely on invisibility. The only thing Bone has over them is that he can use his Hero/Tower killer ability every 30 second, while TB and Lycan can use it every 70 seconds midgame, buy still they are stronger picks then Bone
DPS Carry: Bone is a glass canon hero with very high damage thanks to Searing Arrows and Strafe, so he has to farm up. This means that in teamfights he will be the last one to enter and snipe enemy supports and low HP heroes from range with his high burst damage. Orchid is your primary choice for this role
Ganker: From level 6 he can kill lone heroes without disable, and his ganking power peaks mid game when he gets farmed a bit. Schyte of Vyse is your primary choice for this role
Building Wrecker: Bone can deal a lot of damage to building since Searing Arrows work on buildings so he should be pushing mid-late game and backdooring when possible. Natural extension to DPS Carry role
Take Wind Walk on level 1 unless you are on solo lane and have no fear of ganks to impove your last hitting power and lane control.
Max Strafe or Wind Walk first based on your opponents, take Death Pact when possible.
Maxing Strafe first is the best strategy because Bone is a mid game hero and it doubles your damage output, but you should take 2-3 levels of WW before you max it based on your opponents
Fire a large number of arrows for 4/6/8/10 seconds.
Cooldown 60/50/40/30
Mana Cost 90
110% increased attack speed.
This ability almost doubles your damage output and is enough to kill almost any hero in those few seconds it lasts.
Leveling it is a priority since it lasts longer and has shorter cooldown on higher levels
Increases the damage of the Hero's attack by adding fire.
Bonus Damage 20/30/40/50
Mana Cost 8
Searing Arrows is an orb effect. non buff placer.
Searing Arrows deal damage to structures.
The damage is directly added to Clinkz' attack damage, as physical damage.
Look at the Orbwalking section for more info how to use it
Turn invisible for a period of time, increasing movement speed.
Mana Cost 75
Duration 20/25/30/35
Cooldown 20
Movement speed bonus 11/22/33/44%
Bone Fletcher can go through units when under the effects of Wind Walk.
Will not break most channeling of spells or items upon activation.
When attacking, invisibility is broken before the projectile reaches the target.
Has a fadetime of 0.6 seconds.
Don't spam it early game, you will run out of mana
Kills a target unit and gains bonus damage and HP.
Duration 35
Cooldown 45
Mana Cost 100
Gains 50/60/70% HP and 5/6/7% damage of consumed unit
If the target is an enemy or neutral unit, it will give the Clinkz the correct gold and experience bounty.
Bone Fletcher gains HP capacity based on the HP of the target. Increases his current and max HP by a certain amount.
When the duration ends, the max HP returns to normal, but the current HP remains the same.
Use it on every cooldown if you are farming, and before ganking enemy heroes
Bone is a midgame hero and he needs to be able to solo kill support heroes and stay away from carries in midgame until farmed.
Maxing Strafe reduces it's cooldown and increases duration so you can gank more often, so benefits from maxing it are greater then maxing WW.
But taking 2, maybe 3 levels of WW is preferable in almost all games since you can chain cast them, though more levels are not needed unless you are against a high mobility hero that can escape from you like Lycan and Weaver
If you decide not to make Orchid/Guinsoo and arm yourself with pure DPS items, you should only take 1 level of strafe and max WW because you won't have mana for it]
Any remaining gold you would save for buybacks or to buy another Divine Rapier. Or if you can't afford to buy Divines or can't get aegis swap them with MKB and Butterfly
2nd BEST IN SLOT BUILD
If you can't get Aegis and therefor Divine
The most common problem Bone faces is that enemies can just run away from him and TP in fog of war.
So if you gank a lot you should make Guinsoo, and if you decide to farm you can make Orchid+MKB so that any hero dies in those 5 seconds and doesn't have a chance to port out
Until recent 6.73 patch, Orchid was only 500g cheaper then Schyte and Schyte had superior mana regen, but now it's 1.5k gold cheaper and still offers 25% damage boost on silenced target for 5 seconds while Schyte's mana regen was reduced by 40%. So it is a viable alternative to Guinsoo if you need raw damage more then the best disable in game (no pun intended), but you should still make Schyte in most of your games.
Also note that Orchid silence has 18 sec cooldown, while Guinsoo's hex has 35 sec
This means that when you decide to kill someone or start ganking swap your Treads to Agi, and when expecting a gank or team fight swap them to Str just in case. If you need additional mana to use Wind Walk or Pact swap them to Int.
Just remember that swapping will cancel wind walk, so if you start attacking someone with Treads on Str double click them to change to Agi, (use hotkey programs like Warkeys to do that)
Gank early with TP scrolls
While laning, if you notice that enemy heroes on dual lane are easy kill for you, teleport to that lane if needed and ambush then with Wind Walk. They can't see you coming.
Conserve your mana early game so you have at least 260 mana if you decide to TP to another lane.
Don't gank without Death Pact
It gives you great damage and HP buff, and can decive opponents thinking you are easier to kill then you actually are. If you are getting ganked or are in teamfight consume a nearby lane creep to gain advantage if possible
Orbwalking is manual casting of Orb effects used to harras and chase enemy heroes in lanes because enemy creeps won't react to your attacks, and is your most powerfull tool in establishing lane dominance.
You can toggle manual casting of orbs on/off with ALT+W (or what ever your keybind is)
Once you have Guinsoo/Orchid you can permanently toggle Arrows on
Execution:
Get near your targeted hero and manually cast Searing Arrow on him. When you make the attack (when the arrow flies out) quickly right click on the ground to stop your horrible attack animation and click in front yourself to chase the hero and make another attack, or behind your self to get back
You can see how to orbwalk and force enemy player to back off effectively
Attacking towers when your creeps are not around gives the tower 90 health regen per second, so if you fail BD attempt the tower will regenerate back when you leave.
This makes BD pretty hard for T2 and T3 towers, but not impossible.
Bone is the best backdoorer for T1 and T2 towers, and able to BD T3 tower with Divine Rapier or help from another ally.
On Level 9 with maxed Searing Arrows and 3 levels of Strafe and Agility Treads and Ring of Aquila Bone will be able to take down T1 towers by him self and escape with more then 1/3 of his HP
On level 16 with Agility Treads, Ring of Aquila, and Monkey King Bar Bone can take down T2 towers.
Taking down T3 Tower and Rax is not possible without Divine Rapier or help from another ally (Preferably Furion with AC/Deso)
When to Backdoor
Don't do it when enemy heroes are near and they are free to TP and defend the tower.
Keep in mind that creeps spawn every 30 seconds, and that you attack you if you try to BD T2 tower around 12 seconds after they spawn.
If you BD T1 tower you have 15 seconds before encountering creeps on mid lane, 17 on short and 22 on long lane if you start when they spawn.
At the beggining of the game when you are going to the short lane, you should buy (pubs ofc) Sentry Wards to ward enemy pull and and rune spot to establish lane dominance.
This is how it works:
On the short lane you will usually face enemy carry and his support or random "weaker" hero. In order to farm they have to stay near their tower or they will be suspectible to ganks and harrasment from you and your lane partner, and the most common way to pull creeps closer to their tower is by pulling neutral creeps.
You place the other ward on the rune spot so that you mid hero can get rune control and to prevent your self from being ganked. However, if both mid heroes are not rune whores and you do not fear ganks in first 4-5 minutes of the game, you can wait a bit with warding the rune spot so that you have the protection when ganks actually start to happen
So in a way, you are not SPENDING money on wards, you are INVESTING it, and you can expect to get at least 400 gold return from warding via rune and lane control
What is most important you are not at risk of getting killed by doing so because of Wind Walk
WARDING AS SENTINEL/RADIANT
Ward this spot when the game starts at 00:01 and get ready ward the creep camp before 00:31
Warding the top creep camp is dangerous, so you need Wind Walk at level 1. While invisible make sure to ward it before 00:31
That way you will prevent 6 cycles of creep spawning
WARDING AS SCOURGE/DIRE
Ward this spot when the game starts at 00:01 and get ready ward the creep camp before 00:31
Warding the bottom creep camp is not dangerous, because enemy creeps can't see you when you stand in spawn point, and in case you need to escape you can eat a tree with tango. Make sure to ward it before 00:31
That way you will prevent 6 cycles of creep spawning
Positioning is the most important part of playing Bone
If your position is bad any idiot can escape from you
Don't gank enemy heroes in river, they can escape to higher ground and hide.
At best you will lose 3-4 seconds of your strafe, at worst his ally will appear from fog with him and kill you.
You have to position on enemy escape route when ever you want to kill them, and in certain places they have multiple routes to choose from so you have to guess which they are most likely to use
You win teamfights by ambushing opponents when they are engaged in a fight with your allies because if you were to charge in first you would get killed before you'd have a chance to attack.
For example after combo of Skeleton King and Witch Doctor tried to First Blood me.
I escaped and thinking I went back to heal they decided to kill my lane partner Jakiro.
I quickly noticed that and positioned my self near them but far enough so that WD's Cask doesn't chain stun us.
Witch Doctor falls to my Strafe+Searing Arrows combo and I get FB
Skeleton King tries to run but I Orbwalk him to death granting me double kill. Notice how far from me he is and that without Orbwalking I wouldn't get the kill
Solo Lane
You shine on solo lane, be it side or mid. You can get early levels and gank heroes by teleporting and/or windwalking to their lanes
Dual Lane
Long or short, doesn't matter. Make sure to establish lane dominance if you can and farm as much as you can, and try to get a kill from level 3.
Teleporting to other dual lane (again from level 3 and higher) and backstabing enemy heroes also works because you are invisible and have great hero killing potential
Trilane
Bone benefits a lot from early levels and farm so that he can snipe low level and HP heroes so he should not be tri laning in lower organized games, but he can lane with 2 great supports like Shadow Fiend does nowdays
Always check inventory of enemy hero or group of heroes you are about to engage
If the place is warded or enemy has a gem you will probably not survive if you run in blindly unless you have Black King Bar
Your HP is pretty low and you don't have a way to disable an enemy except by using Guinsoo/Orchid, and to do so you have to leave WW and lose 44% speed buff.
And if enemy player has diffusal and you don't have BKB you will certanly not escape.
You can deal with wards by carrying wards or gem of your own, but do not carry a gem if you don't have aegis.
If you can not gank because of that go farm, you are a carry and transition very well into later stages of game.
These kind of heroes allow you to nuke your target down without giving them a chance to escape like Crystal Maiden, Witch Doctor,Storm Spirit, LionBabysitters
These kind of heroes allow you to stay on lane and farm and have some kind of offensive or defensive skill that lasts long enough to kill someone during Strafe too. Laning with Crystal Maiden or Witch Doctor allows you to be very agressive, while Warlock and Pheonix make sure you get all the farm you need and survive against strong lanesArmor Reduction Heroes
Heroes with spammable and reliable armor reduction spells are your best allies after the laning phase like Sladar, Dazzle and Alchemist, and heroes that buy Assault Curiass and Desolator as part of their coreSpecial Mention
These heroes can kill you early mid game without you having a chance to react. Play with caution and make Hearth if BKB is not enough later in gameSpecial Mention
