I) Hero Introduction
Background Story
After a millennium of being trapped under the raging waters of the Maelstrom, Slardar rose from its chaotic depths with his brethren to serve the mighty demon lord, Illidan Stormrage. Fanatically devoted to his cause, this Naga fought valiantly along his side until he succumbed to fatal wounds in the heat of battle. Salvation finally seemed within grasp - that is until his fate became intertwined with the grim reach of the Lich King. Reincarnated as a soulless beast without emotion, Slardar tears through the enemy lines with inhuman speed, striking them out cold with mighty blows, undeterred in his quest to fulfill Ner'zhul's every whim.
Usefulness Of Slardar To His Team
1. Supreme chaser throughout the whole game (Very few heroes can outrun him)
2. 350 AOE stun/slow (AOE is important in team clashes)
3. Anti-invisible hero (The bane of most invisible heroes)
4. Ultimate is a Negative Armour debuff (Everyone on his team will deal extra damage to the unlucky enemy hero)
II) Hero Stats
Starting Hero Stats
Primary Attribute: Strength
Strength: 21 + 2.8
Agility: 17 + 1.9
Intelligence: 15 + 1.5
Damage: 51-59
Armour: 4.4
Movement Speed: 300
Attack Range: 100 (Melee)
Sight Range: 1800 (In the day) / 800 (At night)
HP: 549
MP: 195
Hero Stats Analysis
Slardar has average starting strength for a strength-based hero, with the average starting strength for such heroes being 22.
As a strength hero, Slardar also suffers from poor starting intelligence and intelligence gain, with a measly 15 intelligence points to start off with.
His starting movement speed is average, 300 for most heroes.
Overall, Slardar has decent stats for a strength hero, but it is his awesome skill set which makes him dangerous in the right hands.
III) Hero Skill Set Introduction/Explanation
I will describe each skill that Slardar possesses, followed by an explanation about the usefulness of that particular skill.
Sprint
Ability Type: Active
Targeting Type: Instant
Ability Hotkey: T
Slardar increases his movement speed dramatically, but takes 15% bonus damage.
Level 1
Mana Cost: 50 MP
Cooldown: 40 seconds
Duration: 20 seconds
Effect: Increases speed by 20%
Level 2
Mana Cost: 50 MP
Cooldown: 40 seconds
Duration: 20 seconds
Effect: Increases speed by 27%
Level 3
Mana Cost: 50 MP
Cooldown: 40 seconds
Duration: 20 seconds
Effect: Increases speed by 33%
Level 4
Mana Cost: 50 MP
Cooldown: 40 seconds
Duration: 20 seconds
Effect: Increases speed by 40%
Explanation
At level 4, Sprint increases Slardar's movement speed(ms) by 40% and can increase his ms to 500+ with just power treads on him. (This is very close to the maximum ms of 522 on heroes)
This is what makes Slardar the supreme chaser in dota, as I have stated in the hero introduction.
However, there is a downside to Sprint usage. Slardar will take 15% bonus damage from any source while sprinting, which can spell disaster for him if his prey leads him into a trap.
Slithereen Crush
Ability Type: Active
Targeting Type: Instant
Ability Hotkey: R
Slams the ground, stunning and damaging nearby enemy land units. Slows enemy units by 20% for 2 seconds afterwards.
Level 1
Mana Cost: 80 MP
Cooldown: 8 seconds
Duration: 1.00 seconds
Effect: 50 damage, stun & slow
Level 2
Mana Cost: 95 MP
Cooldown: 8 seconds
Duration: 1.50 seconds
Effect: 100 damage, stun & slow
Level 3
Mana Cost: 105 MP
Cooldown: 8 seconds
Duration: 2.00 seconds
Effect: 150 damage, stun & slow
Level 4
Mana Cost: 115 MP
Cooldown: 8 seconds
Duration: 2.50 seconds
Effect: 200 damage, stun & slow
Explanation
Slithereen Crush is Slardar's stun, which is his main way of keeping opponents in place while he pounds them to oblivion. As compared to other stuns in dota, Slardar's stun damage is one of the lowest in the game, 200 damage pales in comparison to vengeful spirit's 325 damage stun. (The damage dealt is physical damage, which is reduced by an opponent's armour)
However, Slardar's stun is unique, as unlike other stuns, it slows the affected opponent by 20% for 2 seconds after the stun duration. When coupled with sprint, no hero (except Lycanthrope in ultimate form) can be faster than Slardar for that 2 second slow duration. If the stun misses but the slow processes, the opponent unit will be slowed for 4 seconds instead.
Slithereen Crush is also an AOE stun, although it pales in comparison to other AOE stuns, as it has only 350 range. This means that Slardar can potentially stun more than one enemy hero, which gives his team a slight advantage, as those heroes will be unable to respond for 2 seconds, which can mean a lot in a team fight.
Bash
Ability Type: Passive
Targeting Type: N/A
Ability Hotkey: B
Gives a chance that an attack will do bonus damage and stun an opponent for 1 second.
Level 1
Mana Cost: N/A
Cooldown: N/A
Duration: 1 second on heroes, 2 seconds on creeps
Effect: 10% chance per attack, 40 bonus damage
Level 2
Mana Cost: N/A
Cooldown: N/A
Duration: 1 second on heroes, 2 seconds on creeps
Effect: 15% chance per attack, 50 bonus damage
Level 3
Mana Cost: N/A
Cooldown: N/A
Duration: 1 second on heroes, 2 seconds on creeps
Effect: 20% chance per attack, 60 bonus damage
Level 4
Mana Cost: N/A
Cooldown: N/A
Duration: 1 second on heroes, 2 seconds on creeps
Effect: 25% chance per attack, 70 bonus damage
Explanation
This is Slardar's only passive ability. At level 4, it gives Slardar a 25% chance to bash his opponent per attack and does 70 bonus magical damage. It also works on magic immune units. (Not good for opponents who rely on BKB) =)
This passive will only get stronger as Slardar gains more IAS, as more attacks per second means greater chance to Bash.
Amplify Damage
Ability Type: Active
Targeting Type: Unit
Ability Hotkey: G
Amplifies physical damage against enemy units by reducing their armor.
Level 1
Mana Cost: 25 MP
Cooldown: 10 seconds
Duration: 25 seconds
Effect: Reduces armour by 5
Level 2
Mana Cost: 25 MP
Cooldown: 10 seconds
Duration: 25 seconds
Effect: Reduces armour by 10
Level 3
Mana Cost: 25 MP
Cooldown: 10 seconds
Duration: 25 seconds
Effect: Reduces armour by 15
Explanation
Amplify Damage is Slardar's ultimate. This skill can be devastating to enemy heroes. At level 3, it gives a debuff of -15 armour to a single opponent. This means that if an opponent has overall negative armour after Slardar has casted Amplify Damage on that unfortunate soul, the target will receive >100% damage from physical spells/attacks from any source, which gives Slardar's team a damage boost on the afflicted target when attacking with their normal attacks/spells.
Amplify Damage also provides true sight for 25 seconds when casted on the opponent hero, which is the bane of any invisible hero/windwalker. It also prevents opponents from escaping from your team's sight, as it provides vision of the target for 25 seconds also, even if the hero is not an invisible hero/windwalker.
However, if the target becomes magic immune after amplify damage is casted on it, the debuff is dispelled from the target. Amplify Damage can be cast on a magic immune target, can be purged from an afflicted target, and is blocked by Linken's Sphere.
IV) Skill Build

Level 11 Amplify Damage
Level 12 Bash
Level 13 Bash
Level 14 Bash
Level 15 Stats
Level 16 Amplify Damage
Level 17-25 Stats
Skill Build Justification
Most heroes have around the same ms as Slardar early game without ms increasing items. Therefore, leveling Sprint early will give Slardar ms superiority over his target. This in turn will enable Slardar to land Slithereen Crush easily on his target, if Slardar is not disabled first. As such, Sprint and Slithereen Crush are skills which have synergy with each other.
Bash is a percentage based skill, so it is clearly inferior to Slithereen Crush in terms of stunning an opponent early game as it will not process often enough due to Slardar's lack of IAS. Hence, Bash will only be added mid game when Slardar has enough IAS to Bash often.
