Personal Info

Axe is a great hero in lane and in jungle, he can harass most lane opponents without breaking a sweat. The reason why he's such a good hero is because all his skills are at home with one another, counter-helix+call+culling at the right moment and assure an easy kill early to mid. His helix triggers not when he receives damage but when the animation takes place. His hunger is an unusual skill, its great for harassing but better used if your opponent is running away with low hp.

Skill Build:
Now before I jump into the skill build, I'd like to say that there are a large number of skill builds for Axe but for organized matches only 1 truly stands. Therefore I shall state that first,

Axe in Lane Build:
Level 1- Counter Helix
Level 2- Beserker's Call
Level 3- Counter Helix/ Beserker's Call
Level 4- Counter Helix/Beserker's Call(the opposite of lvl 3 duh!!)
Level 5-Counter Helix
Level 6- Culling Blade
Level 7- Counter Helix
Level 8&9- Beserker's Call
Level 10- Stats/Battle Hunger
Level 11- Culling Blade
Level 12-15-Stats/Battle Hunger
Level 16- Culling Blade
Level 17to25- Stats/Battle Hunger

Skill Build Explanation

Well basically this build is quite simple to understand, you are maxing out your main damage dealing spell, In this build your aim is to harass the enemy hero so much as to prevent him from even touching your creeps and pushing him back completely, If you lane partner is a stunner/slower you can even get some easy kills by sneaking up behind enemy heroes after they are stunned and using call on them right after the stun time for some massive PAIN!! Call is taken instead of Hunger because at early levels you really don't have all that much manna for supporting many hungers and Call also gives you reasonable armor plus silences your enemies.

Q) Why are stats preferred over hunger at level 10???
A) Look at it this way, What is more useful, +2 to all stats(which gives Axe a small increase in his retarded manna pool) or a spell that's hardly going to be used in a proper gank? Now if you think the latter is better well I can't stop you there, but I feel the former is better.

The Never Last Hit When I'm Around Axe:

Level 1- Counter Helix
Level 2- Battle Hunger
Level 3- Counter Helix
Level 4- Battle Hunger
Level 5- Counter Helix
Level 6- Culling Blade
Level 7- Counter Helix
Level 8&9- Battle Hunger
Level 10- Beserker's Call
Level 11- Culling Blade
Level 12-14- Beserker's Call
Level 15- Stats
Level 16- Culling Blade
Level 17-25- Stats

Skill Build Explanation:
This build is kinda like gambling. In this build you aren't taking your mini stun/silence and replacing it with a spell that really tortures your enemies. The plus side on this skill build is that you should have complete lane dominance if done right but the down side is that you'll hardly have enough manna at level 6 to finish the guy off with a culling. The proper way to make best use of this build is to Hunger your opponent and then charge at him(click on him so as the draw creep agro). Now any guy with half a brain should run away from a mad-man like you and in this way you are keeping him away from last-hitting and denying thus making sure hunger takes its toll on the poor soul.
Instead of stats at level 9 you start taking you Call to make sure you are ready to gank. This skill build requires practice and really should only be used in pubs.

Jungle Axe:
Level 1- Counter Helix
Level 2- Beserker's Call
Level 3- Counter Helix
Level 4- Beserker's Call
Level 5- Counter Helix
Level 6- Culling Blade
Level 7- Counter Helix
Level 8&9- Beserker's Call
Level 10- Stats/Battle Hunger
Level 11- Culling Blade
Level 12-15- Stats/Battle Hunger
Level 16- Culling Blade
Level 17to25- Stats/Battle Hunger

Skill Build Explanation:

Well I'm sure you've noticed its quite similar to Axe in lane build and truly to say it is. In this build you aren't gonna be that mean axe scarring people in lane, you're gonna be a hidden axe killing poor little koboids and mud golems!! This build just aims to get your items faster and give any team mates their precious "solo" lanes. Nothing much to say in this build except that please don't go about taking on Furblogs and Centaurs early in the levels because their attack speed is really low and their damage quite high. The best Neutrals are low level ones like koboids, gnolls, satyrs and mud golems.

Item Build:

Items When you pick Axe:

x2
x1/2

This is all you start off with, lane or jungle this is all you need to harass, farm and survive. Stouts give you good chances to block creep hits and making it harder for opponents to harass you.

Early Game:

x1/2(2 is optional only get it if you REALLY need it)
This remains from the previous stout if you haven't upgraded it to a vanguard.

With Axe's farming ability this should be no problem. If they wont let farm in lane go jungle, if your opponents are weak melee heroes you can own in lane. Vanguard is rushed so that your damage block and H.P regen become high and its even harder for enemies to kill you. Remember the more damage you can take the more times you spin and dish out damage with Counter-Helix. Boot is a no-brainier, after this your aim is to farm your core item.

Core:

This is the item that helps you move on into late game, all you need to do now is to get a few more tanking items and then watch the chaos. You just need to blink in the MIDDLE of a mass of opponent heroes and use your Beserker's Call this makes them literally useless unless there's a mortred with 1k crits All spell casters are rendered useless, and they have no choice but to attack you, your allies come in and help you take the team out,Cull anyone who is low on H.P. and hopefully you can get a team kill.

Basic Item Layout:

x 1/2

OR

Items you should consider:

Justifications On Main Items and Optional Items:
The Vanguards have a gotten a mention before. Hood is gotten in case the majority of heroes on the opponent team are spell casters like zeus, lina, lion or tinker etc. Boots are self explanatory though BoT is preferred since it gives you good M.S and a free T.P scroll, Axe being a ganker needs to be everywhere at all times BoT helps him out here. Blink is your core and a mention has been made also. Heart is gotten to increase your H.P and make you more unkillable. Shiva's is gotten so that you can slow and damage an A.O.E making it a little easier to take out enemies it also gives you nice armor buff. Blade-mail is an excellent counter against a troll or a mortred all their attacks will reflect on to them but we warned you are also taking a lot of damage by them and make sure you use your Beserker's Call and draw them to you before activating blade mail or they'll just run circles round you till it wears off. Assault Cuirass is a nice item on him since it reduces your opponent's armor,it also gives you a nice attack-speed buff(though you don't need it) Guinsoo may seem like a strange item on Axe but if your team is falling short on disables then there's no harm in you making the guinsoo. If you have a hood then upgrading it into a pipe can be advantageous for you and your team with the barrier.

Good Allies:

Axe is considered as an ally usually though with certain heroes like Earth-shaker,Crystal maiden and other disablers Axe can screw up almost anyone in lane. If you are going for the Battle Hunger Build Ezalor is a very helpful ally since he can restore your mana and help you continue your hunger.

Bad enemies:

Axe really has no enemies but a few heroes can prove to be a pain for him like Viper and Venomancer without a blink its gonna be really hard to get close to these two since they slow you down to a crawl. Other tanks later in the game like centaur,Magnus and Treant can be a problem. Its not going to be easy taking down 4k,3k,3k H.P. down to <600 H.P with Counter helix that does very little damage late game. Watch out for tanks.
Late game carries such as Anti-Mage, Mortred,Troll and Void can be deadly if you don't shut them down early game, usually in pubs they leave after getting killed,In competitive play however you're gonna need your team to help you take them out.
Mass H.P. Destroyers like Huskar or Necrolyte can take you out quite easily, since their ultimate's are based on percentage damage your H.P will fall drastically.
