Alleria Windrunner

Hello there im Aca29 and i will guide you trough the whole gameplay of Windrunner.This is a guide for advanced players and u will need a basic gameplay knowledge to follow up with the guide.She is a very underused misused and underrated hero, so i decided to write a guide so that hopefully people will understand the true power of Alleria Windrunner.Also this is my first guide so i apologize if the design of guide isn't so pleasing.

In the valleys of Winterspring, deep within the verdant glades of the Forest of Trees, an elf with the power of the wind makes her home. She joined the Sentinel as a free agent shortly after the War of the Magi. Favored by the Goddess of Wind, Alleria received many blessings. Her arrows fly straight and true, piercing all enemies in a line. She can lace her arrow with wind and bind enemies together by creating ethereal shackles. Her footsteps are hastened by the currents of air. It is known that she can dispatch enemies at blinding speed by releasing a flurry of arrows. She is indeed a worthy enemy of the Scourge.

  • Only hero that can skill himself

Skills:


Shackleshot

Alleria fires an enchanted arrow using wind magic that binds the target to an enemy unit or tree behind it.
*Mana Cost 90 100 110 120
*Cooldown 10 seconds at all levels
*Casting range 600 at all levels
*Effects 1.5, 2.25, 3, 3.75 sec stun to 2 targets (Enemy unit or tree)

Notes
• If the target isn't shackled to anything, the stun only lasts 0.75 seconds.
• This spell can shackle two enemies together, stunning them both.
• Trees created by Furion's Sprout spell are valid targets for shackling.
• Can shackle the target to an enemy unit or tree at most 425 units behind it.
• Can't target Magic-immune.
• Have a targeting priority for second target: units over trees
• If u shackle 2 heroes and one of them have Linkens it will block spell normally and completely. If Linken's holder is the secondary target to which a primary target is shackled, despite the animation, the stun is blocked for the Linken's holder.

This is your most important skill for team-fights and ganks,it have a 10 sec cooldown and u should spam is as much as u can.Also try to stun 2 heroes because it have a sick duration of almost 4 sec(8 if u count both).As for the ganks u may sometimes need to stun your opponent on a line, this can be easily achieved by targeting range creep(or melee if your opponent is melee).Here's some pictures displaying that:












Powershot

Windrunner winds up her bow for up to 1 second to perform a single powerful shot. The arrow travels up to 1700 distance, dealing damage and destroying trees in its path. The damaged dealt is greatest to the first target it hits and is reduced by 10% with each other it passes through.
*Mana Cost 90 100 110 120
*Cooldown 9 seconds at all levels
*Casting range 1800 at all levels
*Area of Effect 150 at all levels
*Effects 120, 200, 280, 360 initial damage

Notes
• Damage type: magical
• The arrow initially moves at a rate of 3000 units per second.
• The arrow is slowed a little each time it hits an enemy or a tree.
• This spell destroys trees.
• Trees created by Furion's Sprout spell can be destroyed by Powershot.
• Arrow leaves vision for 5 seconds
• This skill has a 1 second channeling time. If canceled before Alleria finishes channeling, the arrow will deal less damage(for example if canceled at .5 sec arrow will deal 50% damage).

This is your main damage source early game, its quite powerful nuke with low cooldown.It can be used as harassing tool and for cleaning massive amount of creeps(farming,antipush,etc...)If u are using for harassing make sure u always deal full damage to Hero(Usually he will surround himself with creeps so try to hit him from side).If you use it for farming make sure u hit all creeps with it(common mistake is that ppl think damage is too much reduced, but low damage to 10 creeps>high damage to 3 creeps).Also don't forget to use it for scouting.If you do so cancel channel time because you don't need the damage.Some pictures:





Windrunner

Imbues her body with the essence of wind, increasing her movement speed by 50% and giving her the ability to evade all physical attacks for a short period of time. Additionally, the gusts of wind around her impairs the movement of nearby enemies, slowing their movement speed in a 300 AoE around her.
*Mana Cost 100 at all levels
*Cooldown 15 seconds at all levels
*Area of Effect 300 at all levels
*Duration 2.75, 3.5, 4.25, 5 seconds
*Effects Gives complete physical evasion, 50% increased MS, and slows nearby enemies by 8%, 16%, 24%, 30%

Notes
• The slow will affect enemies with magic immunity.
• Incoming projectiles before this skill is activated will not be evaded.
• Cannot be purged.

You can use this spell is 3 ways: for fleeing, for chasing , and for fighting.
1:Only with boots u will have 518 ms for 5 sec which will allow you to easily run away from your enemy.100% evasion helps a lot too
2:Windrunner have an awesome backswing time and attack animation which will allow you to "orbwalk" you opponents even without orb skill.Make sure they are in 300 AOE around you because 30% slow is really helpful.Also 100% evasion makes Alleria best towerdiver
3:In fights u will use this as a protection skill (Activate Windrunner and Focus Fire and watch your enemies hp melt away while u get untouched)


Focus Fire

Alleria channels wind throughout her body to surge an excess of adrenaline, giving her maximum attack speed on one target. Damage is reduced in this state.
*Mana Cost 200, 300, 400
*Cooldown 60(15*) seconds at all levels
*Casting range 600 at all levels
*Duration 20 seconds at all levels
*Effects Constantly attacks with 50%, 40%, 30% reduced damage and maximum attack speed at the target

Notes
•The damage reduction affects all damage from Alleria while the spell is active, including alternate damage such as orb effects.
•Can target buildings and magic immune units.
•Can be improved by Aghanim's Scepter (* shows the improved values).
•With Aghanim's Scepter it no longer reduces damage from secondary item effects (Like bonus damage from Bash, Chain Lightning).
•Focus Fire will end if you change target or use active item skill (some items are exceptions see item build section), but will not end if u use your natural skills, get stunned or silenced

You see the red note?That's all what Windrunner is about.Its your main dps skill and you need to abuse it to the maximum.Most people stun with shackleshot use FF and watch enemy flee after stun is over.This is wrong, activate Winrunner, chase him and attack every time you can, then after shackleshot cd is ready do it again and continue to attack your enemy.You'll always attack with maximum attack speed so any attack speed item is wasted on WR



Analysis



So we got a high ranged int hero with slightly lower ms then usual.She begins with low hp average mana and 1.4 armor and grows to very high hp and a good mana pool.She's got a double stun with low cd, unreliable nuke with low cd, ms increasing skill, and attack spell increasing skill for ultimate.First 3 skills support the ganker playstyle but your ulti is more carry type.Beside that you've got a pretty nice farming potential with awesome attack and Powershot, so that's why Windrunner is a ganker/semi-carry(she can even support but its waste of her potential).IMO that's the most intresting role to play, you are active trough the whole game.She's often compared to Mirana because of similar gameplay and that's true but there are some differences:

Skill Build

Before i present the build i must inform you about exceptional warding ability of Winrunner.Due to her lvl-1 woodcutting ability she is able to place ward on 3 quite unique places.Note that she is only a ward placer not a ward buyer.(With this build u take powershot lvl 1 and cut tree to make a ward at that place)

Spot 1:

This spot is very tricky one.You need to place a ward right on top of tree place or tree will regrow near ward(and not inside it) and block half of your vision.Pros-more vision then usual warding at that place

This is really no brainer.Windrunner is taken first to counter fb attempts,then Powershot is maxed asap for harassing and farming, followed by Shackeshot which will you mostly use in ganks.Finish leveling up Windrunner for more survival and then Focus Fire because its totally useless early game.

I'll start from rejected items due to constant failure of picking WR's itembuild.
I wont state obvious rejected items.



FUCK NO!
This just makes me cry.Often seen on every WR player as a core for some unknown reason this item is among the worst ones you can buy.
+20 int - ok
+30% attack speed - wasted
+45 damage - ok
+225% mana reg - overkill
Soul Burn - cancels your ulti if not casted on your target

As you can see almost half of item effects are wasted.Silence is not needed, and even if it is your not the one who should buy it.Not to mention how orchid gives you nothing to survivability early game and makes you a pure paper.For that money you can buy items that will give you much more dps then orchid.Meh even a battefury vanguard tide is better then orchid wr.



Attack speed is completely wasted



Attack speed wasted.You don't need extra ms(You have 518 ms with normal boots and Windrunner)



Extra ms and Phase is overkill.Damage is good but not needed early game(By the time you level FF, you will need BoT much more then 24 damage)



You have very low hp early game so you can't afford to use Sacrifice.This item will just delay your core


Situational items:



Buy this only if you need another disable really badly.Damage it gives isn't that good for its cost and the mana reg is overkill.




Use it to chase, escape and position a perfect shackleshot.But beware paying 2k gold for this can sometimes be a big waste.Get this only if your team is in big advantage and doesn't yet need your dps




Alternative to dagger.Attack speed is wasted but you get 10 int which is ok



Bonuses it gives are perfect for you.Return is ok since you have good natural hp.Get this vs glass canons.



Yes, it gives you semi-invulnerability combined with windrunner, and it wont cancel your ulti.Get this if opponents have a lot of disables/nukes.



More damage, more mana, more armor and a nice -as aura.Use arctic blast to slow your opponents as they flee, or when they are chasing you.Buy it if opponents have a lot of physical dpsers which can avoid your evasion



Feedback is best orb for WR but rest of item effects are useless.Agility is not needed at all, int is meh, purge is decent.Get this only in very rare situations when purge is a must and no one else can buy it, or versus Medusa.

Buff placers don't stack.



This is your absolute core.I know it will probably seem weird to you at start but i assure you will fell in love with Linkens when u try it.You'll get everything you need, hp regen to stay in line and farm more, mana regen to spam your skills and a very nice stats boost.And let's not forget spell block which can be a real lifesaver, and a nice counter to nukers who are your main enemy early game.




This is bought mainly because of teleport.Never rush it.It also gives you a nice ms when u don't have Windrunner, so its nice for chasing.



This provides a best damage for its cost and ministun is nice for interrupting tp.Also a must against evasion heroes.
True strike is a buff placer.(You can turn it on/off)



If you already have high damage this item is best amplifier for some sick dps.
Critical strike is a buff placer when it proc on ranged heroes.(If you don't know what this means ignore it its nothing important)



This is really nice if you have a team full of physical dpsers.
Corruption is a orb effect.
Corruption is a buff placer.



Although i have never tried basher, it seems nice on paper.Bash is always imba.



For the lulz.You don't die much anyway.



Here's the trick.Focus fire damage reduction is actually a triggered heal so your damage isn't really reduced.This means you can lifesteal your FULL damage!!!Nice for increasing your EHP.
Lifesteal is a orb effect.



You will get this mainly because of cd decrease.It also gives you nice stats and makes FF deal full damage from bash and crits.Sadly Agha changes FF's mechanics so you won't lifesteal full damage anymore, and i wouldn't advise buying it with Satanic.



You don't need so much stats, and slow is unneeded too because you already have good chasing skills.But then again its not that bad, buy it if you really like it.
Cold attack is a buff placer.


Gameplay:
Early game:

Get any combination of this items
My usual build goes something like this

Salve over Tango
It is very important why i choose salve over tango.
Tango-Eats a tree to restore 115 HP over 16 seconds,3 charges.Tango is bought on fragile heroes with no escape ability.Why?Heroes like this need to have constant full hp or else they will become a gank magnet or even nuked by their line opponents.That's why u have 3 charges that fill a little bit of hp, every time u take even a slightest damage you eat a tango so you'll be full.
Salve-Restores 400 HP over 10 seconds, dispels on attack.Salve heals more then tango but you need to have -400 hp to take full advantage of it.Many heroes can't afford that but Windrunner can.She have a high str growth and nice escape ability.Also if used wisely salve can save you almost from any gank(they cant dispel salve by attacking due to 100% evasion)


Try to have a solo mid, you need lvl advantage to gank early and you are awesome solo liner(you can even go solo vs trilane!).If some wannabepro insists on going mid screw him and so sideline, its not that bad.Focus on lasthitting and denying creeps, and harassing your opponent(use Powershot when needed).When u reach lvl 9(if you are mid) start ganking(bottle is recommended).If you are on sideline just focus on farming and line dominance until enemy tower is dead.Afterward just roam, try to get kills and farm whenever you can for Linkens


Mid game:

By now your inventory should look like this

Focus on ganking and pushing.Always try to get kills because you are carry who dies very hard and its unlikely that your spree will be ended.Use FF to take down towers and always farm empty lines that need defense.Next item on to-buy list is 1 pure damage item.Choose:

Note: If you are going for lifesteal build get before mkb/buriza.

Clashes
In early team fights all you need to do is spam Shackleshot and Powershot.Now its not that easy, its important on who you cast Focus Fire,because it can decide the outcome of fight.Do not use it on fragile int heroes because its not a nuke, its a damage amplifier.That's why you need to cast it on "tanky" heroes to take full advantage of it.However if there is a enemy carry with high priority then FF him instead.

Finish up your and end the game.


Late game:

If the game isn't finished by now farm Agha so you can use FF more then once on teamfight, or if only one carry is giving you problems then focus on getting more damage items.Always remember you can have only one orb effect and one buff placer.Don't roam alone, always hide behind your team because death at this stage of game can mean instant loss for your team.

Although WR benefits the most from solo line she can be a decent line partner too.

Sprout gives you perfect Shackleshot and Powershot

With Decrepify your Powershot deal huge damage

This heroes fill you with mana to spam your spells

More disables are always welcome

With your stun and their burst damage any enemy is good as dead


Enemies:



Nukers can be really annoying early game

Silence can really fuck you up early, tho it wont be much of a problem later

Winrunner wont help you much against their disables

Mana drainers are always gay

Chrono will pause any hardcoded spell(evasion) so he will be able to freely bash you to death

Doom counters almost anyone

Any carry with True Strike is real pain in the ass
