Introduction

Admiral Daelin Proudmoore, also known as Captain Jack Sparrow, Kunkka, CoCo or just The Pirate, is an escaped convict, charged for a number of crimes: smuggling, theft, piracy (in both meanings), drunk driving and terrorism. Sailing on a stolen ship, he has made a contract with The Sentinel (The Cops), allowing him to do whatever he wants without penalty if he helps them to catch The Boss on his Iced Chair.

Skills

Torrent
Kunkka downloads a corrupted torrent from thepiratebay.com which soon pops up a critical error message. The bad guys near it jump in surprise and then fall on their doups, taking damage and a brief slow.

Level 1 - 120 damage, 30% slow, lasts 1 second.
Level 2 - 180 damage, 30% slow, lasts 2 seconds.
Level 3 - 240 damage, 30% slow, lasts 3 seconds.
Level 4 - 300 damage, 30% slow, lasts 4 seconds.

Cooldown: 12
Manacost: 120
Range: 1500

Notes:
  • Damage type: magic
  • The initial bubble effect is only visible to allies.
  • Units tossed in the air will be paused and still able to be attacked.
  • Part of the damage occurs right as the torrent erupts, the rest occurs over time as the units are in the air.
  • The unit is disabled for 1.53 seconds at all levels.

Tidebringer
CoCo's sword is actually a stolen magical shower that pours water upon the bad guys every few seconds and damages them due to the hidden Super Battle Fury inside and a few corrections in physics laws.

Level 1 - +15 damage, 380 AoE.
Level 2 - +30 damage, 420 AoE.
Level 3 - +45 damage, 460 AoE.
Level 4 - +60 damage, 500 AoE.

Cooldown: 16/12/8/4
Manacost: 0

Notes:
  • Cleaved damage is only reduced by armor type, not by armor value.
  • Cooldown is not activated on denies, so the damage bonus is maintained.

X Marks The Spot
Proudmoore hacks the servers and overwrites the information about the exact location of a hero after several seconds, ignoring all common sense and physics.

Level 1 - 1 second.
Level 2 - 2 seconds.
Level 3 - 3 seconds.
Level 4 - 4 seconds.

Cooldown: 30
Manacost: 80/90/100/110
Range: 500/650/800/950

Notes:
  • If target becomes magic immune after this spell has been cast, target will not return to the X after the duration ends.
  • Will return the unit even if teleported.
  • Can be cast on friends, enemies and self.
  • It interrupts channeling spells.

Ghost Ship
Jack Sparrow organises a terrorist attack with The Flying Dutchman, which flies along, allowing the pirate and his allies to take advantage of the rum inside (which acts just like Dr House's painkillers). Then the ship crashes ahead, effectively sending the unlucky victims into Davy Jones' locker.

Level 1 - 1 second stun, 300 crash damage, 10% MS bonus, half damage now half damage after skill wears off.
Level 2 - 1 second stun, 400 crash damage, 10% MS bonus, half damage now half damage after skill wears off.
Level 3 - 1 second stun, 500 crash damage, 10% MS bonus, half damage now half damage after skill wears off.

Cooldown: 100
Manacost: 150/200/250
Range: 1000
Area: 400
Duration: 5/6/7

Notes:
  • Damage type: magic
  • Actual AoE of ship's collision is larger than the boat itself.
  • The boat has a movement speed of 650.
  • Damage dealt after CoCo's rum wears off is non-lethal and can never kill a hero.

The Pirate School

Lesson 1: How To Use The Shower

A pirate's sword is not simple to use, but we are not talking about an ordinary plain rusty rapier. We are talking about a sho... the Tidebringer! It has the wonderful ability to deal extra damage to an extra amount of people if you use it correctly.

*SCREEN OF WRONG ANGLE*
*SCREEN OF CORRECT ANGLE*
Profit.

This douche can do almost everything. Let us see...

*LAST HIT*
*HARASS*
*FINISH OFF THROUGH CREEPS*
*DEAL WITH ILLUSIONS*
*KILLING INVISIBLE TARGETS*
*MASSIVE FARMING*

An interesting note about harass is the damage per minute scale as you put additional points in Tidebringer. (The following numbers are calculated taking into account Kunkka's base damage at level 1/3/5/7 respectively):

Level 1 Max Damage/Min: 260
Level 2 Max Damage/Min: 450
Level 3 Max Damage/Min: 825
Level 4 Max Damage/Min: 1950

Clear now? Great. Let's move on.

Lesson 2: Downloading a Torrent

Piracy is illegal but guess what: you are a pirate! In a war everything is legal, so you can violate the authorship law if it is for the good of everyone! Or at least for the good of those who pay you.

The special torrent you will be downloading will crash in 2 seconds. The ugly critical error message will make anyone faint for 1.53 seconds on the bare sight of it. The problems are however, that you will have to wait 2 seconds before it crashes; and the error size is a 225 area. That means:

*SCREEN OF A FAILED TORRENT*

So, you will have to predict where the enemy will be with a precision of 225 units. Well, how to do it if the enemy is moving?
Let’s have a look at how move speed works:

300 speed = 300 range per second.

Right. Most heroes have a starting move speed of 300 or near 300. We also know that:

Torrent delay = 2 seconds.

And we want to find out:

Where to cast Torrent = ???

Let’s put it like this:

v = 300 r/s
t = 2 s
s = ?

s = vt = 300r/s x 2s = 600 range.

A Torrent against a running hero without boots should be placed at 600 range in front of him/her.
Physics. Even Jack Sparrow should use physics sometimes. So it’s simple – just double your opponent’s move speed and place a Torrent at that distance. Common values are:

  • No Boots: 600 range
  • Boots: 700 range
  • Phase Boots: 740 – 814 range
  • Treads: 720 range
  • Boots of Travel: 780 range
  • Haste rune: 1044 range

As you can see, all you are required to do is to place the skill and measure distance properly (but keep in mind you have an allowed mistake of 250 units). Practise on test mode with different combinations until you get the hang of it.

However, if you play against intelligent opponents (~2% of pub players) you won't be always able to predict their direction. Then you will have to predict where they would predict your prediction of their prediction about the location of your Torrent in order to properly predict where to download the actual Torrent. This is called a MIND GAME. In case you are just an ordinary pirate (who is not in a very good relationship with physics) or you hate mind games or faint on the sight of charts like:

*SCREEN OF TORRENT MIND GAME*

Then you are a completely normal person. But good news is coming: DON'T WORRY, BE HAPPY, because we have a perfect solution of the problem:

Lesson 3: X vs Physics

Instead of bothering to predict positions, a pirate prefers to hack the server and overwrites the data (as mentioned, completely ignoring any common sense and physics). That's right, in the best case, Sparrow casts X, then Torrent, then the enemy hero makes complicated moves and finally ends up wet. Why? Because in 2 seconds s/he is set on the X (no matter what) and the horrible critical error pops up.

*SCREEN*

Where's the catch? X lasts 1/2/3/4 seconds. Some players think it is not worth leveling the skill past level 2. Before pulling out your ossified arguments, let me present mine:

Level 2:
90 mana cost
650 casting range
2 seconds delay (no need to use manual return to combo with Torrent; little use for hide-and-seeks)

Level 4:
110 mana cost
950 casting range
4 seconds delay (requires either manual return (+50 mana) or decent timing to combo with Torrent; much better use for hide-and-seeks)

Make your own conclusions. I personally prefer taking Level 4 earlier on because a few extra seconds might win a team battle or help executing a successful hide-and-seek. You may decide to take it later though, when you don't care about mana anymore and when you are not playing against serious opponents (i.e. you don't need help in hide-and-seeks).
By the way the 300 cast range is a big deal.

Lesson 4: How to Become a Terrorist

We saved the best for last! The Flying Dutchman makes excellent assaults and provides a little bevvy for you and your mates to celebrate the victory (Enhanced Ale with painkillers - the private supplies of Davy Jones and Dr House! Shhh!).
Aye, it is not easy to drive that huge boat, but we got a few tricks down here...

The boat has a speed of 650, it appears 1000 range behind the pirate and crashes 950 range in the facing direction in front of him at the moment of cast. That means it will crash in exactly THREE seconds. Which, on the other hand, gives your enemy plenty of time to show a clean pair of heels, precisely what anyone who doesn't lack common sense would do. Well, unless you make some cunning moves.

Cunning moves like...

Wait before getting your first skill point. Sometimes you might need to cast Torrent at level 1.
You may also find it useful to delay last 2 levels of Torrent in favour of X, in case you miss a lot or need the disable more than burst damage.

Lesson 6: Item Build

Starting Items:

Don't upgrade the gauntlets. Have your ally share a courier with you so you won't need to return to base yourself.

In Lane:

Buy the magic stick and have it upgraded as soon as possible. Then buy the boots so you will be able to gank and chase with Torrent/Ship. Buy the ring after you have eaten your tango. Carry a town portal scroll all the time! Don't be cheap - the net gold bonus from killed creeps/heroes with the help of TP is much greater than its own cost, AND it can help you escape.

Core:

You may want to buy your Battle Fury first if you have problems with farming. That's OK. But don't buy more than one battle fury because other items will increase your total damage more.
The Buriza is the key. Because:

*SCREEN: BURIZA - TIDEBRINGER*

Since Warcraft mechanics calculate chance-based passives in a pseudo-random manner, you can force a Buriza critical strike! Just hit 5-6 times without critical in a row (if crit proceeds start over) and you will have more than 50% chance to crit on your next attack... the Tidebringer one! Double-shower for your enemies.
TRIPPLE KILL!!!

Optional:

Grab a Black King Bar if you find yourself under heavy magic barrage or perma-disabled.
Lothars continues getting popularity on Kunkka as an escape mechanism and 125! bonus shower damage.

Luxury:

Game over.

Lesson 7: Gameplay

Do what you want 'cause a pirate is free - you are a pirate!

I usually part in the bottom lane with someone who can help me set up Torrents or semi-solo it with a jungler.
Remember the shower damage table? That is Kunkka's harassing power. When you hit level 5 your enemies should have already depleted their regeneration supplies and from now on Tidebringer becomes real pain in the ass! Be careful not to overdo it though because at level 6...

*SCREENSHOT*

In case you were unlucky, gank someone! Your combo is as lethal as Impale-Finger-Skill, if not even more!

Out of mana? No problem, start farming! Wait for a creep to go low on health and whiplash the wave with your douche. Then last hit the rest of the creeps one by one.

In team fights cast your one thousand range initiating combo. Place a Torrent, wait half a second and call the Flying Dutchman. By the time the landlubbers fall on their knees, your boat keelhauls them!

Lesson 8: Friends/Enemies/Prey

Friends
:medtc.jpeg:

Any hardcore stunner is fine.

Enemies

In general, mana burners. And stunners. If they are abundant, get

Prey

Squishy, vulnerable low-strength heroes. In most cases you will be able to insta-gib them before they even realise what has just happened.
