Roshan, sometimes also referred to as Roshan the Immortal, is the most powerful neutral creep in DotA. It easily outmatches most heroes in one vs one combat. A team generally waits until later in the game where the damage dealers have better items, or tries to take it on with the entire team.

Every 4 minutes (after first lane creep spawn) Roshan gets stronger, gaining: +500 hp, +10 damage and +0.5 armor (given by an aura).
Like all other neutral creeps, Roshan does respawn. However, he does not respawn at fixed times but instead at a random time between 8 and 11 minutes after he was killed. His respawning cannot be stopped (like other neutral creeps) by putting units in the empty camp.
Roshan has six abilities at his disposal:
Roshan will block one targeted spell every 15 seconds.
Roshan has a 75% spell resistance.
Roshan has a 15% chance to deal 50 bonus damage and stun for 1.65 seconds on an attack.
Roshan can slam the ground, slowing the attack speed and movement speed of units and heroes in a 250 AoE for 2 seconds on heroes, and 4 seconds on units. Slam also deals 70 damage. Roshan will not cast Slam unless there are 3 or more units near him.
Any illusion that attacks Roshan will be instantly destroyed.
Roshan has a Devotion aura that increases his armor. The aura starts at +0.5 armor, and increases by +0.5 every 5 minutes after the first creep spawn. Roshan's aura has a maximum increase of +5 armor.
Aegis and Cheese
When Roshan is killed he will always drop an Aegis of the Immortal. Once picked up this item can't be dropped or given to another hero. When the carrier of Aegis is killed, a tombstone will spawn on the corpse. After 5 seconds the hero will respawn will full hp and mana on top of the tombstone. Aegis will be consumed by this. If after 6 minutes, the carrying hero has not died (and thus used Aegis), then Aegis will be removed from the hero and fully refill its HP and mana over 5 seconds (the regen is dispelled by damage from towers or player units).
Beginning with the third respawn of Roshan, he will drop not only Aegis but also a Cheese. The Cheese can be shared with allies just like any other consumable, or sold for 500 gold. When used it will instantly give the user 2500 hp and 1000 mana.
To attack Roshan the units must be within his spawning location, Roshan on the other hand can attack anyone anywhere if you happen to lure him away. The vision into the spawning location is restricted, and you have to really walk into the spawn to be able to see whats going on in there, or else look in with a flying unit like Beastmaster's hawk. Observer Wards and Sentry Wards can not be placed inside the spawning location either, so a team is generally safe from being spotted while fighting Roshan (exceptions consist from hero skills like Land Mines and Psionic Trap).
