The ability to share most items is disabled by default in DotA games. If the game mode Pool Mode (-PM) is enabled, all items will be shareable with other players.

But in most cases, Pool Mode will not be enabled. In these cases, items can be divided into 3 main categories: completely unshareable, partially shareable, and completely shareable.

This guide will cover the properties of these different categories of items, as well as go over what items are in each category. The final section of this guide covers what items are restricted when given to an animal or flying courier.


Completely Shareable items

Completely shareable items are all consumbables, so they cannot be combined with other items. However, completely shareable items are completely useable by other players, they can both use them and sell them.

Partially shareable items

Partially unshareable items are useable by other players, but cannot be sold or combined with other items.

Completely unshareable items

Completely unshareable items are entirely unuseable by other players: they cannot be sold, they cannot be used, and they cannot be combined with other items.

Restricted Courier Items

Certain items have some of their abilities disabled to prevent abuse while being carried by an Animal Courier or a Flying Courier. Additionally, the Flying Courier is incapable of picking up an Aegis of the Immortal.
